Welcome to the Nebraska Justice Center

Our mission is to promote and provide peaceful, affordable ways to resolve conflict among individuals, families, organizations and communities in the 24 counties of Northeast and North Central Nebraska and 4 Tribal Nations.

As part of our mission, NJC seeks to enhance the quality of life by promoting the use of peaceful processes by and between individuals and within families, communities, our legal system and public and private organizations.

NJC's affiliated mediators have satisfactorily completed a minimum of 30 hours of state approved Basic Mediation Training and 30 hours of Advanced Family Mediation Training, completed an apprenticeship, abide by Nebraska Mediator Standards and Ethics and take continuing education courses every year.

The Mediators will ...

• Explain the mediation process.
• Give each person the opportunity to describe the situation as they see it.
• Ask questions and help all involved to be fully heard.
• Help identify issues, needs and interests important to each person.
• Encourage participants to generate and explore possible solutions.
• Assist parties in writing an agreement using their own ideas and words.

The Mediators will not ...

• Judge or take sides.
• Give advice.
• Make decisions or offer legal advice.
